Happy 2022 & Thank You!

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” Desmond Tutu

These words of wisdom from the late human rights activist Desmond Tutu inspire us to come together when faced with adversity.

As we start 2022, Newcomers Access Center thanks our supporters who contributed “little bits of good” in 2021, a most challenging year. Your small acts of kindness added up, enabling us to serve more than 50 extended families. We are proud of their accomplishments.

Many refugees have:

  • found jobs
  • started a business
  • continue to master English
  • enrolled in top universities
  • opened bank accounts
  • become library members
  • learned the bus system
  • passed the citizenship test and became citizens.

This year’s ongoing pandemic and an influx of new refugees from Afghanistan presented difficult hardships. We were humbled as our partners, donors and volunteers stepped up to help. With your support, we lined up temporary housing and set up households, enrolled kids in school, provided English tutoring, obtained bikes for transportation, provided computers, helped out with rent supplements and gift cards, provided citizenship clinics, and so much more.

In fall of 2021 Newcomers Access Center moved to Claremont, took on new challenges, and was recognized in the media. Each of you, donors, volunteers, and friends, played a significant part, and together we created a mosaic that shines not just for the families we serve, but for our whole community. Thank you! We look forward to working together and accomplishing even more in 2022.
